- Emergency contraceptive pills aim to prevent pregnancy. They do not end an established pregnancy, and they are not 100% effective.
- Recommended time windows depend on the product. Even if more than 72 hours have passed, contact a medical provider promptly rather than assuming it is too late.
- Nausea, tiredness or irregular bleeding can occur. If you vomit after taking the pill, contact a clinician promptly to ask whether another dose is needed.
- It does not protect against later intercourse or sexually transmitted infections. A late period or suspected pregnancy needs testing and medical advice. Seek urgent care for severe abdominal pain, fainting or heavy bleeding.
